Recently Painted No 36 15mm Russian Napoleonic Generals

More figures from Posties Napoleonic collection that I painted I last month, they're all Essex minis and are all for his giant Russian army, I must have already painted at least double this amount of Russian Generals for Postie, he's a little crazy and has already got far too many to use in a game, now he's got these as well. They were a right pain in the neck to paint, he told me they were all generals, so I thought,, green and red with a bit more green, they won't take long. When I opened the box to paint I noticed all the Hussars and a note saying 1812 all different please! At least he said please I suppose!!!

  3. Nice work Ray! How do you find the Essex? I have about 15lbs of them still to paint, got them in an estate sale sight unseen...wish they had been AB or OG for that matter...

    Cheers

Also what do you think of the Rules?

  7. Cheers for the comments chaps!!!!
@ Razor - I love Essex figures, they're my favourite 15mm figure. They may not have the same detail or poses as AB or OG, but they're so easy to paint, the sculptors exaggerate the thickness and size belts and such, which makes them a joy to paint, I've painted AB's loads of times and you really have to dig the detail out of them.

  8. Hi Ray,

The command's are well painted and the basing sets them off well. A talented sculpter can paint the paint job a lot easier.

    Cheers

  15. Nice assortment and fine painting! I'm about to paint a bunch of Russian Generals myself, and I actually had a hard time finding much definite information about proper uniforms for them; even Viskovatov wasn't very helpful. Dark green coats for sure, but were the collars, cuffs, and turnbacks red or just a loot of gold leaf embroidery? How about the saddle cloths - Red? Dark Green edged Gold? Pants - white probably, some Dark Green, some Grey, some buff?

  16. Real nice generals Ray..Must have been quite some work but the results are great

  17. @ Gonsalvo - The Russian Generals wore a pretty boring green coat cuffed and collared red, with lots of gold embroidery. Take a look at this link, there's a picture of some Marshal Kutuzov and some other Russian Generals halfway down the page, this should help give you some ideas.

  27. Thanks for the link, Ray; pretty much as I thought - red collars, cuffs, and turnbacks, pants white but may be other assorted shades on campaign, etc. Still very useful for confirmation!
