Little Rejects v Dad

I had a bit of a surprise last week, my No3 daughter Holly, started up a conversation about wargaming??? Now normally she slates her Dads hobby (just like her mum!) then much to my amazement asked she could have a game.  Oh my God!!! So I had a chat with von Postie and a day and time was set. No4 daughter Nieve was feeling a little left out and wanted to come along as well. How could I say no??

Holly & Nieve

Holly wanted to " Do a Tudor's game" So Postie set up a simple Border Reiver game. It was the Girls v Dad. They played the Scots who recently plundered south of the border and were heading home with their ill gotton gains. While I played the English Lord who'd been plundered.

All Holly & Nieve had to do was exit the far end of the table with as much booty as they could.
While I had to stop them.

The girls picked up the rules very quickly.........perhaps a bit too quick???

The girls did the right thing and moved their loaded wagon full move, and took a few pot-shots at long range, missing all of them!

I charged forward with my Horse.

And won one fight and drew the other.

I won the next turn and charged in again with the rest of my horse, the girls did the same.

Both sides lost a few casualties

And it looked as though I was gaining the upper hand

I went in for the kill, and charged my leader into Nieve's leader, then also hit him
from the back.

And in typical Ray dice mode I got my butt whooped
11-4

Which equaled 2 very happy Little Rejects

  5. Getting your little one's to take an interest and share in your hobby is a wonderful thing, now all you need is to give them a paintbrush each and lead them to that pile of unpainted figures.

  6. How awesome your daughters are now excited about the game? And they beat you? Dude, that is a butt-kicking.

    1. We used Posties homemade set, based on his FIW rules, they're pretty neat rules, I keep telling him to get the published.

  8. Charming. Now we know that you really let your daughters kill you, Ray - it's OK, but if you catch them reading Sun Tzu then don't let them play again. They don't do painting, by any chance?

    1. Painting their next thing on the list, they both want to try. Luckily we're not on Sun Tzu yet (for my sake?) Its more Gangster Granny and Harry Potter!

  14. Basic fact of life I have learned from 20+ years of running participation games "Little Girls with no interest in wargames always turn into aggressive, dice blessed winning machines." It's true, we have also found the more twee and girly they are the nastier the can be in a pinch. Glad your girls had fun and hope you have many more games with them in future. Just don't expect to win many. ;-)

    1. Little girl at LRDG participation game:Can I shoot the machine gun thingies while I move?
Me:Yes, with a full move you can fire with half effect.
Little girl:Right, then I'll run this guy over while I shoot the crap out of those guys!

  24. My proudest day when my daughter asked for the wood elf battalion box set for Xmas. Admittedly it was because she was massively crushing Orlando Bloom's version of Legolas at the time but it's still a win!

  25. Fantastic Ray, lets hope that the girls will follow in daddy's foot steps. My daughter used to play with me and even came to my wargaming club that I ran ib the last 70's. My grand-daughter has hinted that she would like to play one day as she likes the figures that I have painted so far. Well done mate.

  31. Looks like a day well spent, Ray!

Gina's got a very competitive nature, so lord help me if we ever have daughters! I doubt I'd mind losing if it meant a steady stream of gaming, though.

  32. How very nice to have your daughters join you in a game! That said you know they would have beaten you to a fine blue pulp on the way home if you won so consider yourself lucky they can roll better then you saving you a trip to the hospital!;-) My daughter has watched a few of my games briefly and always asks who won so perhaps one day she will challenge her pop as well.:-)

  35. Amazing, I could never get my girls to play a game. One table would be me and my son playing napoleonics, while at the other end the girls would be playing"happy land" with the houses and 1/72 farm animals and farmers.
