Nine Years War - Danish Artillery
When William III came to England in 1688, he bought with him a considerable corps of Danish troops, who gave him sterling service in both Ireland and in Flanders. They were renowned for their solid fighting ability and their general appearance. The force included 8 units of Infantry, 2 of Horse and 1 Dragoon.
Technically this little light piece of artillery shouldn't be included in my Allied army for the Nine Years War as far as I can work out. But after reading through several texts I found then Danish artillery at this time wore a very strange uniform of a Purple coat with Green cuffs, now I'm sorry but I'm not going to pass up the chance to use my very underused bottle of Vallejo 811 Blue Violet!!!! I do plan to paint a Danish brigade and already have Prince George's regt painted ( pictures to follow...one day), I also plan to paint the Danish Guard and one other, which I'm not quite decided on yet??? So now they can have their very own countrymen to support them with artillery fire as they advance across the field. Again I wasn't sure what colour to paint up the gun itself, later they used red guns, so I thought that sounded good to me.
The figures are once again from Essex and the base is from Warbases. They are based up for BLB rules Links for these companies can be found in my links on the left of the page. Apologies for the poor picture quality, I'm gonna end up smashing my camera up soon........me thinks, but that's what you get working with the Angry Lurker all the time, his happy fun mood kinda rubs off!!!!

ReplyDeletepurple coats = must paint!
ReplyDeleteOh I do like this. The uniforms are fabulous. I wonder if they drew their inspiration for these colours from the gorgeous landscape of their homeland. Again, I really enjoy the extra effort you go to in adding historical details.
