Now I can't say I enjoyed sticking these Gripping Beast plastic Vikings together, because I didn't. In fact I hated it. Now you may think hate is a strong word, but it isn't I think I aged around 3 years trying to glue the buggers together. I'm surprised they made it really, they nearly ended up in the bin on several occasions, it got so bad, I gave them to Postie to glue together. Posties got the patience of a saint, (unlike me?????)
I did plan to keep them for my collection, but I think they may end up on ebay, you never know??
Unlike the gluing, I'm very pleased at how they turned out, the flags are all by my good self, while most of the shields are from LBMS and some are hand painted. I'll post a few more pics of some of the others next week.
Nice detail work. I like the first one best.
ReplyDeleteSo, you, plastic, and patience don't play well together?
How on earth did you guess??
DeleteHi Ray,
ReplyDeletealthough you're the man for 15mm - in any case besides Robert from my own wargaming group - those large Vikings look good too. Nice paintjob.
But please don't show us more of them. I've been pondering about those GB plastics for weeks now. If I see more like yours, I'll give in and buy them...
;-)
Cheers
Stefan
They look great Ray – how long did each base take to paint up?
ReplyDeleteI actually found they very quick to put together, much easier than metals because I don't have to pin plastics.
I'm not really sure, I painted all the figures up at the same time.
DeleteNice paintjob.
ReplyDeleteThere´s a lot to be said for the new Multi pose figs..but they are a complete pain in the A*** to put together. I´m still working out wether the best method is bung em togther then paint or, paint, bung together and then touch up (ooh er Madam)
Not sure myself. I think I'll stick to the metal figures.

ReplyDeleteVery good work señor Rousell. I haven't tried the pastic minis from GB yet but my experience with Napoleonic Perrys have been positive in general... I'm a bit surprised about your problems
ReplyDeleteIt may just be me???
DeleteI didn't know plastic existed!!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, great looking figures Ray!
Phil.
Nice figs and lovely flags!
ReplyDeleteDave.
Ahh Postie is a good bloke and he has his uses. Sticking things together may well be one of them.
ReplyDelete"They nearly ended up in the bin!" Are you trying to emulate Fran? That sound like him!
Excellent job mate my only very minor point if that the flags look a little too factory finish! Minor quibble, everything else Brilliant.
I spend far to much time with the Oirish one, all his bad habits tend to rub off and believe me there's a bloody lot of 'em!!
DeleteVery nice!
ReplyDeleteThey do look very nice! I have been thinking of combining them with plastic GW LOTR and Perry WOTR for Wsteros gaming. Superglue leaves a rash on my arms if I work to long with it, so I prefer my big projects to be plastic! ;)
ReplyDeleteThe Westeros thingy sounds interesting?? I wonder when someone will actually bring out the figures for them?
DeleteBeautiful work! I think if you put those on ebay they'd sell in a flash. I admit, I was surprised to read you don't sell your flags. Your work is amazing, Ray.
ReplyDeleteI hope so Elsie, I may one day sell some flags, never say never??
DeleteThese turned out great. I know what you mean about putting figures together.
ReplyDeleteAre you guys playing Saga?
I've got a ton and a half of Dark age figures all based for WAB. So they'd be perfect for Saga. I do have the rules and Do plan to read them......one day. When I've got a little time that is????
DeleteNice job Ray, nice to see some more 28mm goodness on here. I've not had chance to play with any of the GB Plastics but like yours I've seen a lot of lovely figures painted.
ReplyDeleteOnce they're all glued together they do look pretty cool and its a nice change to be able to make your own poses in 25mm.
DeleteGreate paint job Ray !!!
ReplyDeleteNice to see some 28mm painted up by you!
best regards Michael
Flags are ace as always, Ray. Figs are good too - I especially like the first base.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on those. The beautiful flags almost trump the great paintjobs on the minis.
ReplyDeleteThose look great Ray! Most of my plastic vikings ended being used as bits when I modified my Rohan Warriors. I think I'm sticking to metal for my Vikings, sometimes plastic just isn't worth the effort required.
ReplyDeleteI agree!
DeleteNice work, Sir Ray. Your standard of painting has been raised higher again! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteVery, very nice Ray. But why so many? You only need one after all?
ReplyDeleteI've been giving some though to rebasing my Early Crusaders/Reconquista 28mm stuff for SAGA. Trouble is I'm not keen on the system. I'd rather play WAB.
They were originally, and still maybe for my own WAB based Viking army.
DeleteThey're all lovely, but I agree that the first one is the most striking. I think it's the pose of the figure because they're all painted quite stunningly.
ReplyDeleteOh, I agree with you about plastic figures. I've given up on them. Damn the price, I'm willing to pay for lead.
ReplyDeleteYep! Me too!
DeleteLovely work Ray! I'm impressed!.
ReplyDeleteRegards
Bruno
Great job Ray. The flags are brilliant and the shield transfers look very nice as well.
ReplyDeleteLov'em! You are the master of Flags. Plastics have their pluses but the fiddly part is not one of them. At least your frustrations didn't bleed through to the stands as they're all lovely! And I do love the expression "into the bin!"
ReplyDeleteThey soooo very nearly ended up in the bin!
DeleteI can't tell by looking at your brushwork that you hated any part of this as that is spot on. The pose on that first figure is so good. I think that the poses, combined with your brushwork and your flags would make these a good sale for you.
ReplyDeleteThe first one is my favourite too, it is, a great heroic pose.
DeleteVery nice, Ray, very, very nice. I don´t like the GB plastic but yours are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThey look great! Nice work on these Norsemen. Best, Dean
ReplyDeleteNice work Ray. Still think your flags are topps!
ReplyDeleteThey look really good Ray and I always thought Postie would have his uses, now we know.
ReplyDeleteHe id useful sometimes......sometimes!!!!
DeleteNice work Ray. Sorry the plastic was such a hassle!
ReplyDeleteOMG, they are so magnificiently painted! I feel being there, so realistic! Bravo!
ReplyDeletePeter
Very nice paintjobs Ray, next time don't buy plastic !!
ReplyDeleteYep!
DeleteGreat looking vikings Ray!!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't keep anything I hated. Unless I was extremely proud of the end result.. so, I don't know.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking Vikings:-) as always top job on the banners.
ReplyDeleteJason.
love the Viking figure, but hate what those brutes did to Irish and British isles :(
ReplyDeleteexcellent
ReplyDeleteI hear you Ray! I'm not a fan of plastics either although I keep trying for the monetary value, but as of yet I still haven't warmed up to them. Nice looking Vikings!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
These are great Ray. Must admit I prefer your 28mm work, top notch.
