BlogCon.....Givaways......and a prize!

Blog-Con is now only a week away, me and Fran both have a weekend passes made up, SWMBO readily agreed for me to go without any arguments. This, I've got to admit has got me a little worried, what the hell is she planning?? There's no way I'm saying a thing to her, otherwise the weekend pass may be provoked!!
Its too far to drive up for both days, so we've booked into a Premier Inn in the centre of Nottingham (Nottingham North Daybrook), Fran has very kindly has offered to buy anyone a drink after the show on Saturday night, he is quite rich after all???

Stefan from Monty's Caravan is celebrating 50k hits on his blog and has 2 givaway's, there's not long left so click the links below and sign up to win the prizes below.

Also doing a Giveaway is blog chum Loki aka Andy from Loki's Great Hall.
If you'd like to win the most excellent figure below, get on over and sign up quick!

Lastly I won the book pictured below at Gary's blog Happy Valley a few weeks ago. I didn't know what my prize would be at the time and neither did Gary come to think of it.

Sam over at Sam's Mini World is also having a Giveaway, celebrating a multitude of Milestones. he's not chosen the 5 Mithral figures that will make up the prizes yet. So get on over and sign up, you never know what you'll win!

Its not quite what you think at first, its called Wellington's Smallest Victory, then the subtitle slightly gives it away " The Duke, the Model maker and the Secret of Waterloo" Hmmm? I thought?

Peter Hofschröer (the Author), tells the remarkable story of William Siborne, a Lieutenant in the British Army and expert in topography, who was commissioned to make a vast scale model of Waterloo, incorporating seventy-five thousand tin-lead soldiers and stretching over four hundred square feet. Buy why - at a time when celebrations of England's finest hour at Waterloo were so in vogue, and Wellington's fame was at its peak - did this exquisite model gain Siborne the enmity of the Duke and ultimately lead to his own ruin? If history is always written by the victor, never was this more true than Waterloo. Now, to correct a long injustice, Peter Hofschröer reveals the truth of one man's all-consuming and ruinous passion for historical accuracy.

I’m intrigued???  but at least I know what the new Dan Brown books gonna be about!!!!

  3. Well, I thought the book would be more interesting than the ordinary Napoleonic history stuff. There's also the twist that Hofschroer, the famous wannabe German, HATES Wellington and Siborne's the only person I can think of that's painted nearly as many leads as you . . .

It's a good read, but not as good as Hofschroer's 'Wellington Did Rude Things to Spiders' or maybe 'How the Germans Won the World Snooker Championship'

    ;O)

  9. If you are interested in alternative viewpoints on Waterloo you might also want to give this a read. Opinions vary but I found it quite a good read and it goes into great depth about Siborne, his model and how he funded it...

  11. I read Malcolm Balen's 'A Modl Victory' in the Waterloo modl. Really interesting and quite a sad story.

You can see part of it in the National Army museum in London.
