My first non gaming post in quite some time may bore some of you to tears!
Yes its some holiday snaps. and no there are none of me in my budgy smugglers!
The family and I went to Rhodes in Greece. I've never been so hot in my life!
The first few pics are of the acropolis in Lindos
A relief of a Rhodian trireme cut into the rock at the foot of the steps leading to the acropolis. On the bow stood a statue of General Hagesander, the work of the sculptor Pythokritos. The relief dates from about 180 BC.
It was a long bloody long walk up
I did quite fancy the donkey ride up, but when the guide saw the size of me in broken English he told me I'd be better off carrying the donkey up!
Cheeky Git!
Th Acrpolis at Rhodes
The Palace of the Grandmaster of the Knights of Rhodes
Palace entrance
Lacoon and his sons, being strangled by snakes,
Medusa
Along the harbour we found an Arabian Tower
Medieval walls lining the harbour
Fort St Nicholas and lighthouse
Apparently where the Colossus of Rhodes stood at the mouth of the harbor
Hope I didn't bore you all too much!
Surely one of my future destinations, very tempting! Thanks for sharing...
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful island Phil.
DeleteI so loved Rhodes but alas only saw the market and the main castle.
ReplyDeleteOh gawd!
DeleteIt does look stunning, but not sure I could cope with the heat in my current condition - I need to be carrying a few less pounds!
ReplyDeleteLike I said, it was hot, even the locals were complaining about the heatwave. It was n the high 30's to mid 40's!
DeleteIt's been over 100 degrees here, for the past week or so. Will cool down to the upper 90s by this next weekend. Even San Francisco broke 105. I almost have sympathy for them, but no.
ReplyDeletePhew.....that's hot!
DeleteGreat photos Ray Rhodes is somewhere I would love to visit.
ReplyDeleteBest

ReplyDeleteGreat shots and some interesting places you went. You need to get away sometimes!
Yeh, he did look heavy!
DeleteAdmit it Ray, do these first photos mean wherever you step you leave ruins behind? :PP Did you send Fran a postcard with a Greek donkey?
ReplyDeleteI didn't send the old boy a postcard with a pic of him on it but I should have!
DeleteGreat pictures. PETA is proud of you for, shall we say, sparring that poor Greek donkey.
ReplyDeleteThe poor things, it was hard enough dragging myself up the hill, let alone someone else!
DeleteExcellent travel photos, Ray!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jonathan.
DeleteGreat stuff Ray.. and thanks for keeping the budgie smugglers out of public view!
ReplyDeleteI could post some if you really want Dave?
DeleteThank goodness for that - I suspected your comment that there weren't any pics of you smuggling budgies was a lie to lull us into a false sense of security only to find it at the very end of the post! We were lucky :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a grand holiday and that the donkey had a lucky escape :)
I let you all get away with it this time Tamsin.
