Battle Chronicle - The Retreat from Moscow - An Introduction

As you may have previously read, Lee and myself have been helping Paul, from Pazoot, with his new project, Battle Chronicle - The Retreat From Moscow. The rules are very nearly ready, so here's a quick introduction for you.

Battle Chronicles is a skirmish game in which each model represents a single man, struggling to survive on his own. The groups are too small, too broken, and too exhausted for formal formations—on this battlefield, there are no lines, no manoeuvres, only individuals fighting to endure.

The game is played cooperatively. All players take the role of French stragglers, while the

Russian forces are controlled by an automated system, an ever-present threat that must be outpaced, outwitted, or simply escaped.

Battle Chronicle Concept

Battle Chronicles are inspired by “One-Shots” from the RPG world. They’re intended to be quick and easy to pick up and played a handful of times, they’re not designed as a complete games system for a period. You could think of a Battle Chronicle as a wargame equivalent of a fighting fantasy book. They are primarily designed to be played through as a campaign.

Battle Chronicles are designed to be complete wargames, that include the core rules,

scenarios and campaign system. The scenarios are designed to be played in a campaign style with the result of the first game affecting what happens in the next game. Also, the scale of the conflicts is designed to grow in force size and rule complexity as you move through each scenario.

The first scenario is designed to be a learning game, it should play quite quickly, need a small number of troops and introduce the players to the basic concepts of the game.

Each subsequent scenario will require more miniatures and introduce more rules and concepts. The rules have been deliberately kept as easy as possible and new rules and concepts are introduced at the beginning of each scenario so that you don’t have too much to learn before starting to roll the dice and taking the battle to the enemy.

AHPC16 - Last Post - Greek Mythology - Heracles & Chums!

Well I stared this years Challenge with some Jason and the Argonauts figures.....and I'm ending it with the same.

Well not actually the same figures, but more from Wargames Foundry's range.

I painted them up again, in the same black armour that Foundry painted their's.

Here we have the Mighty Heracles, who's a very large chap, in the middle its Canthus the Euboen and Ascalaphus.

Then we have Lynceus, Peleus the Myrmidon and Idas.

Then we have 5 more Children of the Hydra

Although I got a different figure in my pack, a left handed spearman!!

I'm pretty sure my Nephew Zac's gonna love them!!

Its his Birthday at the end of the month, I've bought him some Victrix Greek's, so look out for them on my blog soon.

I took a few shots of the figures having a fight....as you do?

So this is it, my final post of the 16th Challenge, the points are pretty easy to work out on this one.
11x 25mm figures at 5 points each will give me 55 points!

AHPC16 - DaveD's Favourite! Sandbags at 12 paces!!!

As I previously mentioned the Challenge is now over and this is another catch up post from last month.

DaveD and other always rib me over Sandbags, so as for the fist time in any Challenge I've painted WWII figures, I thought I'd have some sandbags!!!

I only bought these last week on Etsy, from The Forge Hub. They were only £3.41 plus postage. So I can't complain about the price at all.

They were very easy to paint up, firstly with a stone colour, the drybrush white.

I wasn't going to base them, but last night thought again. I used artists card and cut out the shapes needed and them based them up in my usual way.

I'm very pleased with them and can't wait to use them in a game.

Once again I'm not really sure how they'll be scored, so I'll leave that up whichever Minion has the job.

AHPC 16 - Roar!!!! 32/40mm??

Just a small post for today, which was a late entry in the closing days of the Challenge.

I bought this furry hap last year and thought he could come in handy.

He's a 3D print and I'm sorry to say, I can't remember what the name of the company was that I bought him from. Only that it was at the Warfare Show in Farnborough last November.

Here he is standing next to a poor Fin, who she's eyeing up for breakfast.
And note I called her a her, I have been lambasted before about painting up female bears!

She will be deployed not only in Finland, but close to the Berezina attacking both French and Russians in the Retreat from Moscow.

Not sure of the points for this young lady, as I'm not sure of her scale?

AHPC16 - Russo - Finnish Winter War - Infantry and Machine Gun Bomb!

The Challenge ended on the 21st March, I'm still catching up on posts

How are we into the final week of the Challenge? I really wish it would go on for another month or so, I always seem to push myself to get more painting done. When its ended I have a painting lull, I suspect most of you, my fellow challengers are the same?

I am hoping this won't be my last post, but this is a biggy, for me anyway. This last week, I somehow found a lot of time to paint 65.5 figures, all for my and Lee's Russo-Finnish Winter War project. Here's a few photos of what I painted this week.

8 Officers and 1 Suomi KP/31 Sub Machine gunner

A radio Operator and his lookout

A Lahti-Saloranta M/26 Light Machine Gun firing and 2 x 2 man teams carrying the M/26..

A 10 man Infantry squad

Another 10 man Infantry squad

A third 10 man Infantry squad

A fourth 10 man squad!

And an 8 man Infantry squad

Simo Häyhä , famously known as "The White Death", was a Finnish sniper during the Winter War. He is widely regarded as the deadliest sniper in military history, credited with at least 505 confirmed kills in fewer than 100 days of combat.

What Finnish army would be complete without some soldiers throwing, Molotov Cocktails, Satchel Charges (Kasapanos) and hand grenades.

A close up of the Lahti-Saloranta M/26 Light Machine Gun, I have 1 other that I painted up previously in the Challenge.

And to go with the 2 M/26 machine guns, I have 2 teams carrying the weapons, so on the table you can use these to move the figures around the table, then the others when they set up. (Sad I know)

Close up of some of the infantry, the kneeling figure on the right is an NCO, but I'll probably use him as a normal infantryman.

Officers, the one in the centre is a Russian figure!

And here they all are in their new home.
64 standing or kneeling figures
3 laying down figures.
65.5 figure x 5 points
Makes a nice fat total of 325 points!

Very handy!

I had two great gaming finds last weekend. Firstly in The Range, I found these rubber matts, they're kinda the same ones I bought before.

Which I used to make the snowy roads for my and Lee's Retreat from Moscow shenanigains.
I was moaning to myself that I originally only bought two and that I should have bought more, mainly because I didn't make a T junction.

Well now I have! I bought myself another two for £3.49 each. Then while queing up at the tills I went back for another two.....just incase!!

Then I picked this up from Lidl. For £7.99

An artificial grass mat.

It measure's out at 1m x 2m.
It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but its not bad for under a tenner

So go get yourselves a bargain!
