Sticking with my 15mm project of Vienna 1683 once again.
The Crème de la Crème of the Allied army The Polish Winged Hussars are my next entry.
Unfortunately in the scenario there are only 2 6 figure units, which seems a bit mean to me, so I will be painting up more after the Challenge. I mean why would you not???
The figures are from Essex Miniatures
But once again, come with no command, so figures from the Generals packs have been used and converted into standard bearers, but I suppose I could have just used a normal Hussar figure instead?
The photo's I've taken really don't d these figures the justice they deserve.
The pennants and the flag on the left were bought from Ebay from Wargame Designs, while the flag on the right was found online, sorry, I can't remember where?
Two Winged Hussars, the wings were a pain in the butt to glue in place, I had to you a small blob of Greenstuff to hold them in place. Then when I started painting them, I wished I hadn't glued them in place, because they were a bugger to paint the inside of the wings as they were so close together.
One Winged Hussars, we're a doddle to paint up!!

They look absolutely amazing, Ray. Top job.
ReplyDeleteCheers Rich, I apprecite that.
DeleteFantastic work Ray 👏
ReplyDeleteCheers Michal.
DeleteSuperb work Ray
ReplyDeleteCheers Neil!
DeleteVery impressive, Ray!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jon.
DeleteVery nice Ray!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark.
DeleteLovely stuff Ray. And lovely to see some Essex Miniatures, they're still one of my favourite manufacturers.
ReplyDeleteI do love Essex minis, they're so easy to paint, they almost paint themselves.
DeleteThe star of the Polish side. I always think the two winged hussars look more spectacular than their one-winged counterparts. Great job on both Ray.
ReplyDeleteThey're such an unusual figure to paint and always come up looking great.
DeleteThey look great!
ReplyDeleteI had to do a double-take at your blog title. I saw Polish Winged Horses...
Lol
DeleteFantastic figures and painting Ray.
ReplyDeleteI wondered why the wings were used and as usual Mr Google came to the rescue . A fun little rabbit hole to explore.
300 of these Hussars charging towards you woyld be enough to terrify anyone. They look like mythological creatures trying to run you down.
DeleteSuperb painting Ray, the flags and pennants really stand out as well!
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them.
Deleteagree with others above comments, awesome painting on the Polish Winged Hussars!
ReplyDeletecheers!
Thanks Phil, glad you approve.
DeleteFirst class winged hussars Ray, cracking job!
ReplyDeleteCheers Phil.
DeleteThey are obviously iconic Ray, and you have done a great job on them, but I always think it's a very strange uniform and must have been terrible to have to wear all that clobber and then try to fight a battle in it!
ReplyDeleteAnd to stand and face them must have been equally as terrible.
DeleteWhat could be finer? I have a small Polish contingent in my collection - mostly infantry - but I've yet to paint a Winged Hussar but I do have some in a picture of the wargame room wall. I enjoyed your post. Thanks
ReplyDeleteStephen
No problem Stephen. Glad you liked them.
DeleteGreat looking figures. I have painted Huzzar units several times with different manufacturers and the wings are always challenging. Lovely work on the standards. Keep going!
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe!
DeleteClassic unit nice👍
ReplyDeleteCheers Matt!
DeleteVery nice Ray, they look great.
ReplyDeleteThanks Donnie.
DeleteThat's true. Why would you not? It's like making more fabric squares. Why would we not? Happy painting and weekend.
ReplyDeleteCheers Ivy, you too!
DeleteThey look great...I do wonder if they ever fought the British they would just be called "Flash B'stards" before being on the receiving end of everything they had from topless Newcastle fans?
ReplyDeleteLOl!!! Now that would be a sight to see!
DeleteGood stuff, Ray - they might be hard to paint but they do look great! The most spectacular troops of the renaissance period? I think George Gush put them on the cover of his WRG rules, with good reason!
ReplyDeleteWinged Hussars are just an iconic sight and all the better en masse, especially when they look as good as your lot Ray. Good stuff!
