I'm a bit late posting my SELWG report this year, and I've been beaten to the punch by all the Rejects and a lot of other bloggers. I blame work? the kids? Mrs R? bloody computer? camera? and work again?
Anyway Four Rejects made it upto a very, very soggy Crystal Palace last Sunday, to spend loads of their hard earned cash. We met BigLee in the carpark were he'd been waiting for us under a tree. There was no way I was going to stand outside and queue up, (Seems like everybody had the same idea?) so we sat in the car until opening time. Now this was a feat in itself (have you seen pics of me Fran and BigLee??) just try and imagine me, Fran, BigLee and the rather smaller Postie all jammed into a Ford KA. I was ok-ish because I had Postie behind me but Fran and Lee both had their knees rubbing their ears!!!.
Anyway, I digress.....On with the show!!!!!
First up are Southend Wargames Club and their game The Battle of Cryslor's Farm 11th November 1813
A War of 1812 game. Unfortunately most of the pics didn't come out very well, these were the best of a bad bunch. I had a good chat with Southend's Richard and won some Hard tack after coming very close to guessing the tune to "Marching through Rochester"
Nom Nom!
Loughton Strike Force - Attack on Ponyri
Just love this scenery!!
Hence the first pic
Simon Miller aka BigRedBat - The Battle of Thrapus 46 BC
Had a brief chat with Simon, he was very busy pointing out the rules to the game
See below!
This was a sceptical to behold, I took loads of pics of the game, but most ending in the recycle bin, I must have been suffering with shaky hand syndrome dammit!
Essex Warriors - War of the Roses
East Grinstead Gamers - Crossfire WWII
SEEMS - Tabletop Teasers On Tour
WSS
Streatham & Tooting - The War without an Enemy ECW
Redhill Wargames Club - The Battle of Valle Las Terreno Aldea
One of my two favs for this years show
It was a Homer Simpson when he thinks of pork chops moment.
Droooooool....
Part 2 later in the week!
Thanks Ray! I wish I'd had more time to see the other games, it was manic, so it is great to see photos. I really liked that hilly Southend terrain (am going to nick that for a future game). And Ponyri!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Simon
Your right the Southend games terrain was pretty cool!
DeleteShaky-Hand-Syndrome..... the rest of us call that Detox. Nice Pics Ray and at least you are organised enough not to have battries run out. I do like the fact that you have concentrated on a few games. I wish I had done. Overall really nice set of photos and nice to see you and the reprobates again.
ReplyDeleteI made sure the batteries were charged the night before, I was a little more organized than normal??
DeleteGreat pictures mate. Frankly I don't think it matters a jot if you are the first to post or the last. One thing I have noticed with all the different sets of pictures from different bloggers this year is that we have all captured the same games in camera (obviously), but have all managed to get different angles of view on the games or spot details that the others haven't. So nobody's effort is wasted regardless of how many pictures you took, or how fast you posted them.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree!
DeleteThanks, Ray. You fellas are blessed to have so many nice events to attend each year. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWe are pretty lucky over here in the UK, spoilt for choice!
DeleteVery cool. Really must attend these in the future!
ReplyDeleteYou should!
DeleteSome really inspirational game pictures there. Looks like fun. Of all the shows that you attend in a year, which is your favorite? I'd like to attend one some time and want to know what to set my sights on.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy this one SELWG, also Warfare in Reading, even though I've not been for a few years now. Salute is the big on over here, it certainly is a big show and is the biggest one the Rejects manage to get to. So if I had to choose it'd probably be Salute , just wish there wasn't so nmuch fantasy stuff and it needs to be on longer show too.
DeleteHonestly, I really prefer the Ponyri table best. But then, the Carlist wars...
ReplyDeleteHmm? they were all pretty good Seb!
DeleteSeems like you had lots o' fun. Love some of those boards! There's a part two?!
ReplyDeleteAfraid so, I tried to narrow down the pics as much as I could, I just couldn't get them all into one post, you'd still be looking at them now!!
DeleteHappy men who can see beautiful things like this ... and thank you for sharing with us, beautiful pictures Ray...I can't imagine the second part!
ReplyDeleteMuch more of the same only a little different.
DeleteGreat looking games. Lots of hard work all around!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, it is hard trying to organize a big game like these, believe me I know.
DeleteCouldn't agree more re the Attack on Ponyri game - that was top 3 for me at Colours when I saw it... lovely terrain..... as for teddy bear fur however..... blechhhhh.... :o)
ReplyDeleteThe Ponyri game was something else, but just how many teddies lost their skin for the Seems guys to play their game???
DeleteThe Battle of Cryslor's Farm did feature some cool scenery and buildings.
ReplyDeleteNo photos of the rejects crammed in the car?
Richard from Southend explained that the site of the battle is now flooded due to the construction of The St Lawrence Seaway???
Deletethose are absolutely stunning settings, Ray! I especially like the last picture with the church or what is it?
ReplyDeleteI think your right, it is a church of some kind.
DeleteSo much eye candy there. Thank you very much for sharing your photos. I enjoyed them greatly.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked the pic AJ.
Deletegood fucking lords of awe.
ReplyDeleteJust gimmeh that
ha ha!
DeleteI laughed at their knees to ears thing. That was pretty good. When Tim drives my little car, he looks about the same.
ReplyDeleteIt was a tight fit!!!
DeleteSounds more like you guys drove a Ford KO :-) Thanks for the report Ray and keep 'em coming!
ReplyDeleteWill do Sander, will do!
DeleteSeriously a part 2?
ReplyDeleteoh yes dirtbag!
DeleteGreat pics and write up.
ReplyDeleteNow someone HAD to get a photo of you all in that Ka! Surely?
I could just about turn the stirring wheel and every time I changed gear Fran got all excited!!!!
DeleteGreat pics Ray. I agree with my fellow bloggers - a pic of all of you in the KA would have been the shot of the show! :-D
ReplyDeleteIf only, To get their cameras out Fran would have pulled a hamstring and BigLee would have given himself a hernia!
DeleteThe pictures you posted are quite nice. That's my secret to photography, just take hundreds and throw 80-90% out.
ReplyDeleteIt works for me, I actually took 213 photos!!!!
DeleteA whole lot of beautiful games!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
They were Chris.
DeleteGreat photos, Ray. There were clearly some spectacular games there. I must admit I'm partial to Loughton Strike Force's "Attack on Ponyri." Excellent scenery there.
ReplyDeleteIt was an excellent looking game.
DeleteGreat photos and wrap up, Ray...and like they say, save the best for last. Regards, Dean
ReplyDeleteIt is a great looking game Dean.
DeleteLovely pictures!
ReplyDeleteI wish we had as many shows around here (need to move to the UK!)!
We do seem to have a lot of shows close to us??
DeleteGreat pictures, Ray - definitely worth waiting for!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Thomas
Cheers Thomas!!!
DeleteI didn't knew you were a time traveller Ray? 2014???? As far as I know this is the year 2013!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures anyway! Thanks for sharing!
Greetings
Peter
Well done for spotting the deliberate mistake Peter?? 10 points for you!
DeleteYou made me one year older! 49 or 50 makes a big difference! :-D
DeleteGreetings
Peter
Some great looking games there Ray! Thanks for the photos. It is fun trying to imagine you guys stuffed into that poor wee car!
ReplyDeleteha ha, it must have been a sight!!!
DeleteGreat photos of some great looking games. Those Crossfire boards looks particularly nice.
ReplyDeleteI wish we had shows like these in Sweden.
Were very lucky in the UK, there must be a show on somewhere nearly every weekend.
DeleteBetter late than never Ray. Some smashing stuff on display.
ReplyDeleteCheers Paul!
DeleteNo such thing as "too many" pictures of well presented games.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting them!
I totally agree!
DeleteGreat selection of pics, despite your claim of "shaky hand" - just what exactly had Fran made you do ?
ReplyDeleteNow that'd be telling!!!!
DeleteImpressive . Most impressive.
ReplyDeleteCheers Kev!
