SELWG 2013 Part 1



I'm a  bit late posting my SELWG report this year, and I've been beaten to the punch by all the Rejects and a lot of other bloggers. I blame work? the kids? Mrs R? bloody computer? camera? and work again?

Anyway Four Rejects made it upto a very, very soggy Crystal Palace last Sunday, to spend loads of their hard earned cash. We met BigLee in the carpark were he'd been waiting for us under a tree. There was no way I was going to stand outside and queue up, (Seems like everybody had the same idea?) so we sat in the car until opening time. Now this was a feat in itself (have you seen pics of me Fran and BigLee??)  just try and imagine me, Fran, BigLee and the rather smaller Postie all jammed into a Ford KA. I was ok-ish because I had Postie behind me but Fran and Lee both had their knees rubbing their ears!!!.

Anyway, I digress.....On with the show!!!!!


First up are Southend Wargames Club and their game The Battle of Cryslor's Farm 11th November 1813
A War of 1812 game. Unfortunately most of the pics didn't come out very well, these were the best of a bad bunch. I had a good chat with Southend's Richard and won some Hard tack after coming very close to guessing the tune to "Marching through Rochester"

This was a sceptical to behold, I took loads of pics of the game, but most ending in the recycle bin, I must have been suffering with shaky hand syndrome dammit!

    Thanks Ray! I wish I'd had more time to see the other games, it was manic, so it is great to see photos. I really liked that hilly Southend terrain (am going to nick that for a future game). And Ponyri!

    Shaky-Hand-Syndrome..... the rest of us call that Detox. Nice Pics Ray and at least you are organised enough not to have battries run out. I do like the fact that you have concentrated on a few games. I wish I had done. Overall really nice set of photos and nice to see you and the reprobates again.

    Great pictures mate. Frankly I don't think it matters a jot if you are the first to post or the last. One thing I have noticed with all the different sets of pictures from different bloggers this year is that we have all captured the same games in camera (obviously), but have all managed to get different angles of view on the games or spot details that the others haven't. So nobody's effort is wasted regardless of how many pictures you took, or how fast you posted them.

    Some really inspirational game pictures there. Looks like fun. Of all the shows that you attend in a year, which is your favorite? I'd like to attend one some time and want to know what to set my sights on.

      I always enjoy this one SELWG, also Warfare in Reading, even though I've not been for a few years now. Salute is the big on over here, it certainly is a big show and is the biggest one the Rejects manage to get to. So if I had to choose it'd probably be Salute , just wish there wasn't so nmuch fantasy stuff and it needs to be on longer show too.

    Couldn't agree more re the Attack on Ponyri game - that was top 3 for me at Colours when I saw it... lovely terrain..... as for teddy bear fur however..... blechhhhh.... :o)

    The Battle of Cryslor's Farm did feature some cool scenery and buildings.

      Richard from Southend explained that the site of the battle is now flooded due to the construction of The St Lawrence Seaway???

    Great photos, Ray. There were clearly some spectacular games there. I must admit I'm partial to Loughton Strike Force's "Attack on Ponyri." Excellent scenery there.
