AHPC 15 - Retreat from Moscow - Dead, Dying & Frozen! 43 pts

I'll probably get into someones bad books for posting these dead and dying figures.

I did last time I posted some 15mm FIW dead figures?

There are some weird people around???

Just remember these are toy soldiers, not real people!

Black n White photo just to work the button counters up a little more!!

These former fine looking fellow are once again mainly Perry minis painted up to represent various French and allied soldiers, who fell and never got up again during the Retreat from Moscow. There is even a Perry English casualty figure in there too, painted up as French. Can you spot him? Give yourself a hearty pat on the back and a packet of Jelly Babies if you do!

There are 13 laying figures and 2 sitting figures. Previously laying down figures have only earned half points, but I shall leave the workings out, up to the bestest Minion in the world, Teemu, who comes from Finland, infact he is my favourite person from Finland EVER!!!

After me fanning Teemu's flames he gave me 3 extra points giving me 43 all together, this pushed me up to 21st place with 647 points.

  1. Let's hope this isn't an omen for when the day comes, Ray!

    1. Thanks Lawrence, we decided to use that shape as its the same as the Cavalry bases, so can fit in the sabot bases.

  5. Very atmospheric, chilling even. It is 17degrees F here, and they look very topical.

  7. Lovely work Ray, they have turned out really well and very nicely based.

  8. Liking these sculpts. Maybe make a face or extremities more black to account for frostbite on one or two? Just a thought. No idea why anyone would be up in arms over casualty markers...

    1. I did consider painting their faces with a greyer tone, but left it as is in the end.

    French translation:

Still so impressive and inspiring. 650,000 men including 450,000 on the main route, 30,000 crossing the Niemen on the return. Even if they reached Moscow, unlike others (germans) 130 years later. This Russian campaign marked the beginning of the end for the empire.

Conversely, Sir Wiston Churchill said regarding Staningrad and El Alamein which took place at the same time "it is not the beginning of the end but the end of the beginning".

Still looking forward to seeing your interpretation of the Sacred Squadron because I think it will be a first in the figurine world.

Also pretty is the vivandiĂšre in the campaign of winter and the Emperor in an outfit that is certainly appropriate but not very flamboyant. We will say circumstances.

  10. Kind of a must have for 'Retreat' games ? as for weirdos they are best ignored and/or pitied or my preferred option triggered :-)

  16. Excellent casualty markers Ray and superbly done for the 1812 retreat. It is astounding to read memoirs of some of those who returned (there are not many for those who did not). The last one that I read was Henrich von Brandt's, a while ago now, which is published as "In the Legions of Napoleon: The Memoirs of a Polish Officer in Spain and Russia 1808-1813" by Pen & Sword. His accounts from both Spain and Russia are amazing, especially the retreat and his good luck in making it out.
    Regards, James

    1. It was brutal, for sure! I've just bought the Memoirs of Major Vionnet, "With Napoleon's Guard in Russia 1812".Looking forward to reading this one.

    2. Absolutely, Vionnet's is another top read. We are so fortunate that so many memoirs are now easily available, and loads translated too.
