RP No 170 NYW French Generals

Well the Analogue Painting Challenge is over for another year. These 6 Nine Years War French Generals were entered as my last entry earning me a mere 24 points. Pushing me up to my best position in the Challenge so far this year No 36. But in the final hours I was knocked down a place to finish at the lofty heights of No 37!
I've already got some French Generals, that Reject Richard painted up, but these will be used as CnC's or 2nd in command Generals, these 6 will be used as Brigadiers.
They're based up for my much preferred set of rules for the period,  Beneath the Lily Banners. I may one day yet get on the field of battle????

Francois Louis, Prince of Conti

Louis-Charles d'Hautefort

duc de Roqualaure

Mareschal de Camp Montmorancy

Jean-Armand de Joyeuse, Marquis of Grondpre

Lt-Gen Feuquires

RP No168 Loki Greathallson

Another small entry into the Analogue Painting Challenge was this fine looking fellow, I bought this figure maybe 10+ years ago and have had him undercoated for nearly as long!
You may recognize the figure a Wargames Foundry figure as the avatar from fellow blogger Andrew Saunders of Loki's Greathall fame. So in honour of his extremely well painted figure, I name mine as the son of Loki..........Loki Greathallson. And on Loki's shoulder is his long suffering pet Raven called Kev!

RP No 167 Donnybrook - Lord Francis Fezziwig

This rather dashing??? looking chap was one of my entries into the Analogue Painting Challenge back in March. I'm not sure of the make of the figure but it could be Old Glory?? Any ideas?
He was an 18th century figure, with the usual ponytail  but after a little conversion work, with the addition of a rather poncy wig, he fits right into the previous century and as luck would have it, my Donnybrook collection!!!

I did ask, on the Painting Challenge post for a few suitable names for this porky chap, only two were given. Adam from Fencing Frog came up with Lord Fezziwig, while Ian from A Blog With No Name, thought of the name Fran for some reason? Can't think why, can you?
So Lord Francis Fezziwig was born.

RP No 166 NYW French - Gardes Suisses

The Swiss Guard was a regiment that could trace its ancestry back to at least 1590. In 1615
it was first mentioned as a guard regiment and it was completed and functioning as such
by 1616. By 1700 it numbered 12 companies of Swiss soldiers, but like elsewhere these
were larger than French companies, so that the Swiss Guards could field four battalions.
All companies were commanded by Swiss captains, but the 'general's' was commanded
by a Frenchman. The traditional position of the Swiss Guards was in the first line
just to the left of the French Guards.

On 10 October 1685 Pierra Stuppa (1620-1701) became colonel of the Swiss Guard. On 19 May 1691 the Swiss Guard was in camp at Hauterive. Here it fielded two battalions which were in there traditional position to the left of the French Guards, while three more were in the second line. In April-March 1691 it participated in the siege of Mons with three battalions. On 24 July 1692 it was near Namur with two battalions in the first line and two in the second. In the 3 August 1692 battle of Steenkerque it participated with at least two battalions, who were ranged to the left of the French Guard. On 6 January 1701 Colonel Stoppa, called the old Stoppa died at age 83. On 10 January 1701 he was succeeded by Maurice Wagner.

Another entry into the Analogue Painting Challenge, this bad boys earned me 42 points
and pushed me back up to  No 38!!!
Like the Gardes Francaises I had to do a little conversion work on the command figures, the
leader and the 2 standard bearers are actually English Grenadiers, with their heads lopped
off and swapped with other figures!
The figures are my usual Essex minis and the flags are from Maverick

RP No 165 Napoleonic, Hanavarion - Prince Regent's Hussars

This unit was my 3rd entry into the Challenge apart from all the Bonus rounds of course, which is  not that good for the ol' lead pile!! The figures are for Postie to add to his massive 15mm Napoleonic collection.

They are the final unit he needed painting up for his Waterloo English Allies, these are The Prince Regents Hussars. Now trying to find any info about these boys was extreeeemly difficult! But I managed to dig this out... They were raised in Luneburg in 1813 as Estorffs Hussars or the Luneberg Hussars in the rebuilt Hanoverian army. But soon became known as the Prince Regents Hussars. They had several uniform changes, the one depicted is the uniform best guessed to have been worn at the time of Waterloo.
At Waterloo they were in the same Hanoverian Brigade as the Duke of Cumberland's Hussars and the Bremen & Verdun Hussars. Although the Breman Hussars and the Prince Regents were both detached to defend Hal before the battle.

The figures are from Essex minis and bases from Postie!

Analogue Painting Challenge Anti-Hero Bonus Round - Judge Dredd

Out of my comfort zone for this entry into the Analogue hobbies Painting Challenge.
I had to paint up a Anti-Hero, which I though was a bit difficult for a historical figure. I did toy with the idea of painting Galloping Hogan...who??, click here to find out??
But in the end I dug deep into the unloved leadpile and came out with this Mongoose Miniature. I've  actually got two Judge Dredd figures, I was going to paint the figure below......
Judge Dredd 2

but after I undercoated him, I dropped the bugger on the floor and he bounced behind
my table........he's still there now!
So plan B was set in motion and I painted up the other figure.

I must admit I did quite enjoy painting something different and he'll soon be
winging his way across the Atlantic as well, as he's going to be my payment to Curt for
joining in the madness that is the Challenge. He'll be accompanied by last years entrance
fee figure, Cowboy Curt, which I found the other month!, all wrapped up in a box with
some of the Lord of the Rings figures I painted last year!!!
So if you haven't already get on over to the Bonus Round page
and cast your votes for your favorite.

Lastly I thought I'd add this pic to the post, I found it on Facebook..
Oh how true is this???

Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge - Donnybrook Brawl. Comedic Bonus Round.

This was the only bonus round that I actually had a plan for from the start,  Originally it was going to be a bit smaller, only having the Dixon figures - Tavern Brawl, but I got a bit carried away adding figures and various bits and bobs of scenery to add to the effect.

So if you haven't already voted in the Comedic round, get on over and cast your vote, here.  There are some great entries once again!!!

Setting the scene....
Welcome to Ye Old White Hart, a quaint old English pub circa 1685, just outside of Norton St Philips, during the Monmouth Rebellion.

Curt and Sarah Campbell the proprietors of this most English of Public Houses. And their moggy Millsy...

Privates Dave Docherty and Alan Dearn have nipped out of camp, to the local village pub, for a few swift halves and a bit of tickle with the local lasses.

But they obviously haven't noticed a rather stern looking Sgt Willey eyeing their disgraceful behavior! Not only boozing but fraternizing with the locals?? Mayor Scott Bowman also looks on disgusted by dirty the goings on, and wishing that was him with that dirty girl Daisy on his shoulder. Millsy manages to get in the pic as well!

And talking of dirty goings on, look at those two on the floor, fighting it out, pulling each others hair and sticking fingers up each others noses. Even though she's on the bottom Tamsin seems to getting the better of that bad Irish lass Anne, who pinched her drop of Farmer Awdry's Best Ale.

But you've gotta feel sorry for Private Docherty, he's thinks he's off for some fun and frolics with Daisy, she's not best pleased by the look of things, but nor will he when he finds out that Daisy is infact the local rebel leader Clint Burnett in disguise!!!

And here are a few close ups of the figures
Dixons, SHQ & Can't remember

Dixons & Depot Battalion

SHQ - The only figure not named, only because I forgot to add the details in my email to Curt.
This is infact the son of Curt and Sarah, he's a strong lad with strawberry blonde hair, but the poor chap hasn't got a lot upstairs??
You could say he's pretty thick.................and his name's Francis!

Parkfield Miniatures

 Dixons

And Dixons!

The Bar is from Irregular Miniatures

The figures are a mixture of Dixon, SHQ, Parkfield, Col Bill's Depot Battalion and a few others I can't remember??? As previously stated.
I've gone for the practical approach for this entry, Instead of my usual long winded painting style, I thought I'd try something a bit more simple otherwise I'd never get the damn things started let alone finish them.
I block painted them and slapped on some ink....easy! They're not the best I've ever painted or the worst, before anyone else says it!
