I'm a bit late in posting about Partizan, life has just got in the way this week. Most other gamers, bloggers and vloggers have already posted up their show reports, but here's my take on the show and games at this years May Partizan.. Its a very long post, so go put the kettle on before you go any further.
I've firstly gotta say what a fantastic day that was!!!
I do love the Partizan shows, there's eye candy every which way you look.
Top marks to all the clubs hosting games and to all involved in running the show.
Unusually for us, we arrived after the show had started, but there was still a queue to get in. It was a little different this time round as we had to park in another carpark and walk a short distance to the entrance, where there was a marquee, housing an overspill of a few games and traders, also a bring and buy, where you could hire a spot for an hour and sell your unloved items. I picked up a few ECW/Medieval houses quite cheap. Me and Lee planned to walk around together on Lee's planned route, just to make it easier to name the games we were going to photograph. We lost Postie and Steve in the first 2 minutes entering the show and didn't see them again for a few hours. A quick stop at the Last Valley followed, to buy some terrain for our Retreat from Moscow project, then back to the car, where we bumped in Iain from Caveadsum 1471, where we stopped for a chat, then raced back into the show.
The Queue
Now onto the games, here's where I have to apologies to most of the games in the participation area. It took me and Lee so long to get around the demo game section, (around 5 hours!) because we were talking so much to loads of fellow gamers! So by the time we got to the other end some clubs has started to pack there games away, and I was down to 3% battery on my mobile so had to take whatever pics I could.

ReplyDeleteNo problem Garry. Your's was a great looking game.
DeleteA lorra lorra photos ! looked like another excellent show with some really awesome looking games.
ReplyDeleteOh it was!
DeleteWell worth the wait for your post, Ray....what a plethora of beautiful games! Hard to pick favorites...all the 28mm ww2 looked great, the Hispaniola one, the SYW and also the Sikh War games...but most of the others were great too!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't pick a favourite either. There were some crackers!
DeleteA lot of photos of excellent looking games. You must have had a great time.
ReplyDeleteWe all did!
DeleteGreat show, glad I ran into you, lots of lovely games, nice photos!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
T'was a great show, indeed.
DeleteI'm always so jealous of how many wargaming shows you've got in the UK and how exceptionally good they all seem to be. Glad you had fun Ray, hope you got to put your feet up afterwards!
ReplyDeleteCompared to the US, the UK is tiny, so all the shows seem close together. Might seem close to you, but they're a long way away for us. Lol.
DeleteFantastic pictures of what was a great event! It was really nice meeting up again!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Certainly was Chris, on both fronts.
DeleteSuper post Ray, some really great looking games, looks like it was seriously good.
ReplyDeleteOh it was Donnie. It was well worth the drive and all the pain I was in by the end.
DeleteWhat a marvellous collection of photos, spoilt only by one featuring me looking as miserable as sin! They also serve to remind me of how much I missed. Thanks for bringing the show back into focus for me and others I'd guess.
ReplyDeleteThink it was a face of pure contemplation David? To be honest like I said in the post, I missed loads as well.
DeleteHi Ray,
ReplyDeletethis is a great post about this fantastic show. Your photos look excellent and are real eyecandy.
Though the way to get there was a long one from Germany we are planning to come again next year.
It also was a pleasure to meet you.
Mike
It's well worth the trip, Mike. There was so much to look at but not enough time to look at it all.
DeleteI always look forward to these Ray, and they never disappoint. Wonderful stuff.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence. Glad you enjoyed the photos.
DeleteSome fantastic setups. Quite the queue for the show!
ReplyDeleteWe were half an hour late, so it must have been bigger.
DeleteGreat photos Ray, fantastic looking games!
ReplyDeleteIndeed there were!
DeleteNow that was a day out Ray!
ReplyDeleteI am amazed that you managed to take all of those wonderful photos and still get to speak to loads of people!
Best wishes, James
That was all at the expense of shopping James. It was a crazy day, but a hell of a lot of fun.
DeleteWhat a cracking day out - wonderful to see all the meet-ups too!
ReplyDeleteIt was a brilliant day out Paul.
DeleteThanks Ray, epic post indeed! No wonder your battery ran down...
ReplyDeleteGreat to meet you and chat, and you caught me in thoughtful/chin-scratching pose at John Kersey's game.. There was so much to see, can't believe we missed that huge Waterloo game by Nick Hindley! I will certainly give the Participation and Societies zones more time next time.
Next show - Broadside, I look forward to the Rejects game!
I missed most of the top end of the show too. I just ran out of time? See you at Broadside!
DeleteChrist Ray, you must of been very busy at the show. I must gat there next year it looks fantastic. Looking forward to seeing you and the gang at Broadside, next month.
ReplyDeleteIt was very busy and quite knackering too! You gotta go Steve, either the May or October show, both are fantastic. See you at Broadside.
DeleteSome lovely games to remember , good to catch up 👍
ReplyDeleteIt was indeed Matt, on both counts.
DeleteGreat photo bomb Ray . The games at Partizan certainly really do look the business don’t they . Good to catch up with you fir a chat
ReplyDeleteSo much eye candy, it's like being a kid in a sweet shop. You're admiring a game, thinking about getting into that period, which figures to use and what rules to use, then turn around to the next game and it starts all over again!
DeleteWow Lee ….. It’s like I was there! Thanks for all that effort and thanks for getting the Epic Napoleonic in, from what I have seen of reports, only your good self and Henry Hyde captured this.
ReplyDeleteIt was right at the end of the day, so the action was nearly all over. Glad I got a few photos though.
DeleteYou got a heck of a lot of photos, Ray, out of that 3%!! Ha, ha! Beautiful shots of some amazingly inspiring tabletops. I have to admit, British wargame clubs have much more creative and funny names than us over here... :)
ReplyDeleteWeird and wonderful, us Brits!
DeleteGreat and thorough overview of the show. Thanks for posting, enjoyed the show walk through via the game photos.
ReplyDeleteGlad you came along for the ride Shaun.
DeleteWow! A marathon effort, Ray. Thank you for all the many pictures of so many splendid and inspiring games. Must get there one day too. I'm not surprised your 'phone was down to 3% after all that! I imagine you were probably down to about 3% too! ;-) (I even managed to spot a few of my flags on Simon Miller's table, definitely a bonus for me. :-)) Cheers, David.
ReplyDeleteI was well below 3% by the end of the day David. I noticed a few of your flags as well.
DeleteOnly now getting to see these. Excellent pictures mate. 👍
ReplyDeleteCheers Lee. Lots of the same shots as you.
