I've been a very busy boy this month, so I've been neglecting my blog and not commenting on others blogs as much as I would have liked, even paining has been pretty difficult. Life has just got in the way as it does. Mrs R has just celebrated a big Birthday so we had a few days of meals out and party's, and all the organizing of those!!
But I'm hopefully back on track.
I think it was Lee who bought these 6 buildings from Charlie Foxtrot a few months ago, just before my move I had a little spare time and decided to these all fixed up and painted. I did plan on us doing that when we made the gaming mat and tree bases, but we ran out of time.
The first three Razed can be found here.
We bought 3 of each building, to make a burnt out village, they are all built the same but decorated slightly different, to make them individual looking.
On these three buildings I cut down the chimney breasts, they were just too big and would be a bugger to store. I did toye with the idea of having them stand free, but knowing the Rejects they'd be knocked over every few minutes. So they were all cut down and glued in place.
These three are the smaller Razed Buildings, from Charlie Foxtrot
Again I cut down the chimney's, on this one I left it out completely.
I used all the wooden beams provided and raided by bits box for more rubble.
I did make one mistake making these though, I wanted to build up the rubble and snow in the corners of all the houses, so added a mix of sand, gravel and flock, glued into place with PVA. I spayed everything black to kelp give them a burnt look, added a wood colour here and there, but.....and its a big but. after I added the snow effect, the same as we'd used on the figure bases, the green flock in my mix leached out and turned the snow green and yellow.
After I'd calmed down, I figured I'd have to paint over all the snow white, this covered all the discoloured snow (thank gawd) and they turned out fine...
So lesson learnt, don't cover flock with snow!!!

Nice work Ray they look suitably snowy. Yellow snow best avoided !
ReplyDeleteI've often found that Matt!!
DeleteLooking excellent. Never eat yellow snow... the important message from Elf.
ReplyDeleteYeh? Tastes a bit salty?
DeleteFine work there Ray and I always like to see the chimney stacks left standing, which is rather iconic with burnt out wooden buildings.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, If I remember correctly the buildings are based on the photos of a razed Russian village, but I can't remember the name or find any photos?
DeleteLovely work Ray
ReplyDeleteThanks Neil!
DeleteThey look really good Ray. I'll be returning to this page to give me some inspiration for making some ruins.
ReplyDeleteGlad to help, Andy!
DeleteBeautiful work Ray!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michal.
DeleteNice ruins! Hopefully you will be back to full steam ahead on the hobby front soon.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed, Jon!
DeleteGreat work Ray, very well done. They should look super on the table.
ReplyDeleteYes, they should look great when out on display!
DeleteExcellent terrain for the Retreat project, Ray!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean.

ReplyDeleteCheers Bill.
DeleteThese look fantastic Ray, great work! As Matt says, keep clear of yellow snow!
ReplyDeleteYeh, tastes awful!
DeleteHi Ray - this is the link to those cheap trees on Temu.... sorry, cant convert it to a link for some reason also this is a specifically NZ Temu site but I am sure it will lead you somewhere........https://www.temu.com/nz/10pcs-artificial--antler-shaped-tree-branch-small-decorative-plant-twigs-branch-for-wedding-table-decor-shower-party-supplies-halloween-decoration-g-601099526599445.html?top_gallery_url=https%3A%2F%2Fimg.kwcdn.com%2Fproduct%2FFancyalgo%2FVirtualModelMatting%2F50b7736d3a740ed818a46291d49dff76.jpg&spec_gallery_id=2031795806&share_token=sGJhNRwU9jnw-oNg8eBqF374WBC-_einy_-boYED0cvqSnWon6HpfnlfbGe6ynZWqyTABR5L-BcXnBf8h4zOngAx6bAD2gvoW0-8D_693Ws1prZfRmhAQm3Y0q3ugsS0b20XcseZvUYAm1nwjEec1mW0v78Ze4QjawR7U9y0GwS&refer_page_el_sn=209279&_x_vst_scene=adg&_x_ns_product_id=1342918-17595315205128&_x_ads_sub_channel=shopping&_x_ns_prz_type=-1&_x_gmc_catalog=1342918&_x_ns_sku_id=17595315205128&_x_ns_catalog_id=1342918&_x_ads_channel=bing&_x_gmc_account=3544490&_x_ads_creative_id=523140056&_x_ns_device=c&_x_ads_account=176148946&_x_ns_match_type=e&_x_ns_msclkid=a38e26f0db461b022ea54e262b71a562&_x_ads_set=523140056&_x_ns_source=a&_x_ads_id=523140056&_x_ns_keyword=_NAKWNULL_&refer_page_name=kuiper&refer_page_id=13554_1758916679533_yfuvmklb8x&refer_page_sn=13554&_x_sessn_id=bmf6w9rjlb
DeleteCheers Keith!
DeleteReally nice work Ray!
ReplyDeleteCheers Chris.
DeleteThose are wicked cool!
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them Alex.
DeleteI keep looking at Charlie Foxtrot's American stuff and have yet to take the plunge, but these look great. I wouldn't have thought the green flock would leach like it did, but nicely recovered.
ReplyDeleteI was a tad upset, I can tell you. But it worked out in the end.
DeleteHappy Birthday Mrs. R. If you are reading this, I took my Mrs. Wargamer to a wargame show on her birthday, I hope Ray was just as thoughtful!
ReplyDeleteRay - I hadn’t even thought of the importance of representing razed villages in this campaign, I would have just seen it as an opportunity to use my posh Russian Church, but with the scorched earth tactic, I suppose everything should look razed.
Not sure Mrs R would like t visit a show Norm and I certainly don't want her to see how much I'm spending!!! Yeh, the Russian's burnt everything that could help out the French, so there shouldn't be many building standing at all.
DeleteInspirational stuff, Ray. The buildings look excellent, and you certainly can't tell you had some problems with your flock turning green. I'm in a Napoleonic mood myself currently, so this posting really helped spur me a long for a painting session.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it Simon! Keep up the fab work!
DeleteNot much warmth for the poor b#ggers there Ray!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes, James
No, not a lot!
DeleteNot much shelter from the cold in those ! very nice additions
ReplyDeleteThanks Sgt, no none at all!
DeleteExcellent work Ray. They look brilliant.
ReplyDeleteCheers Lee!
DeleteLooking great Ray
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave.
DeleteIt really looks the part Ray. An early childhood lesson too. Avoid the yellow snow.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed!
DeleteVery nice Ray, I have a few myself, a nice idea by Colin.
ReplyDeleteYeh, a great idea!
DeleteExcellent looking ruins, I like the chimneys standing amongst the burnt out woodwork! I flock and then add snow but I'm using up some old exhibition fake snow that's mostly plastic, I think so I haven't had your problems!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
It was a right pain in the........
DeleteThose ruins look great, and I would have never thought that the flocking color would bleed into the snow, that's good to know.
ReplyDeleteIt was quite upsetting!
DeleteI LOVE the snow ❄️
ReplyDeleteThanks Whisk, me too!
