APPC 16 - Vienna 1683 15mm - Ottoman Irregular foot

I'm squeezing in a second post for today, its 23.48 Saturday night and I didn't think I'd get these 48 15mm figures finished, but I'm glad I've got them done!

Once again these Essex minis are for my 15mm Vienna 1683 project. I needed 4 units of Irregular infantry for the Ottomans.

In the scenario the list says 4 units of Irregular foot. I was going to go with all musket armed infantry.

But instead chose 2 units of foot...

A bow armed unit...

And quite possibly a pretty useless unit of spear and shield armed troops.
I'm pretty please as there's now a lot of red ticked off now!!

They did take a little longer than I wanted to to paint them up, as each figure, being Irregular, is painted in random colours.

Apart from the Fez and Turban of course!

So my 4 units of 12 figures each will earn me...96 points!

Cavalier 2026 - Loot!

Better late than never, I thought I'd share a few photos of the loot I collected at Cavalier Wargames Show at the end of February.

Firstly some reinforcements for my Parkfield Miniatures, WWII Finnish army I'm in the middle of painting up. Two sets of machine gun teams, one firing and one moving.

Next up some Barbed wire from Last Man Last Bullet, again for my Finns.

A random purchase, a French team for, cough, Not Silver Bullet. I might be able to use some for my and Lee's Retreat from Moscow armies. I've not yet had the time to match the figures up size wise with my collection.  But they sure are nice sculpts. and sorry, but I can't work out which company I bought them from, they sold loads of beautiful 3D printed buildings, anyone know?

From the Bring n Buy I bought my 2nd copy of Black Powder, even though I've never played the game. Why 2nd copy you ask? Well the first, I bought on ebay without realising it was A5 sized. The writing is so small, I can't read it even with my goggles on!

Well, We need the rules for the Finns! Lee wanted to use Bolt Action over Chain of Command, only coz he thinks he can get more hits on his you tube channel, the tart!

And with the rules, I got this free figure of Francis S Currey.

From Products for Wargamers, I picked up these 2 hills.

And some magnetic sheeting.

Picked this Osprey up, from one stall, how didn't I know about this book?

I spent a few quid at Debris of War as I always do. Yes more trees as well. But thus time they're for my 15mm collections.

Lastly more from Debris of War. 25mm hedges, which I want to cut up and make bushes and some 15mm hedges as well to add to my ever growing collection.

And that my friends, is that!

AHPC 16 - Vienna 1683 - Polish Winged Hussars

Sticking with my 15mm project of Vienna 1683 once again.
The Crème de la Crème of the Allied army The Polish Winged Hussars are my next entry.
Unfortunately in the scenario there are only 2 6 figure units, which seems a bit mean to me, so I will be painting up more after the Challenge. I mean why would you not???

The figures are from Essex Miniatures

But once again, come with no command, so figures from the Generals packs have been used and converted into standard bearers, but I suppose I could have just used a normal Hussar figure instead?

The photo's I've taken really don't d these figures the justice they deserve.

The pennants and the flag on the left were bought from Ebay from Wargame Designs, while the flag on the right was found online, sorry, I can't remember where?

Two Winged Hussars, the wings were a pain in the butt to glue in place, I had to you a small blob of Greenstuff to hold them in place. Then when I started painting them, I wished I hadn't glued them in place, because they were a bugger to paint the inside of the wings as they were so close together.

One Winged Hussars, we're a doddle to paint up!!

Onto the points 12 figures at 4 points each gives me 48 points!

AHPC 16 - 15mm Vienna1683 - Polish Lipka Tartars 48pts

Keeping to last weeks plan, I've painted up more 15mm figures. This time I've moved over the other side of the Relief of Vienna to the Poles.

These handsome chaps are infact 2 units of Lipka Tartars.

The Muslim Tatars who settled in Lithuania in 1397 originated from the White Horde, a branch of the Mongol Golden Horde, after Khan Tokhtamysh was defeated by Amir Timur and accepted the protection of Grand Duke Vytautas the Great. They became a vital part of the Lithuanian military and continued to serve through the Polish–Lithuanian unions that culminated in 1569. Over time they adopted many elements of Polish and Lithuanian Christian culture while remaining loyal soldiers of the Commonwealth, until the Second Polish–Ottoman War sparked the Lipka rebellion in 1672.

About 3,000 Tatar cavalry under Aleksander Kryczyński defected to the Ottomans, but his death and Jan Sobieski’s 1674 amnesty—restoring their traditional rights—brought most back into Commonwealth service. After becoming king, Sobieski confirmed these privileges and granted them land. In 1683 Lipka Tatar regiments joined his 27,000-strong Polish army in the relief of Vienna, marking themselves with straw to avoid confusion with Ottoman Tatars, and helped secure victory alongside Imperial forces under Charles of Lorraine.

The figures are from Essex Miniatures, Tartar range and a a mix of 3 different packs. I found the flags online, I think they are Cossack flags but will do for tartar banners for me.

So to the points, 15mm Cavalry are worth 4 points each.

12 x 4 = 48pts!

Vienna 1683 - 15mm Ottoman Turk Spahi

I bought these fine looking fellow at Warfare in November, they helped me make up my mind in painting up the two 15mm armies for the Relief of Vienna in 1683. You may recall me painting up a ton of 25mm figures for the same period to use the skirmish rules Donnybrook. So why do the same period in 15mm you ask?

Coz I can!!!

They did need a little touching up, just a few chips here and there.

I inked them and rebased them.

And added the flags.

They're a mix of Essex and Venexia figures.

They make up the 4 units of Spahi, the Heavy Cavalry of the Ottoman army.

I've got a long way to go, I was hoping to have most of these painted up during the Painting Challenge, but I'm running out of time, so I'll be happy if I get 50% finished before the Challenge ends on 20th March.  Here's my list below, anything in red has been painted and ticked off the list.

Battle Chronicles - Bridge of Ice and Smoke - Scenario 4

Me an Lee got together in Posties shed last week, to give Scenario 4, another run through,

The Map

"Before you lie, three possible crossing points, (in blue). Each promises a way forward, yet none can be trusted. Ice that appears solid may shatter under the weight of men and horses; snow-covered sections may hide thin, treacherous patches; broken banks and frozen shallows may collapse without warning.

Are the bridges safe to cross?

The photos below  come from the three games we played that evening, the first two ended in surprising easy victories for the French, so we bolstered up the army list for the Russians, which gave a much closer and made for a more realistic game.

The French stragglers are in the centre of the photo, making their way to the bridge on the SW corner of the map.

While Russian Infantry and Jager's chase them down.

Desperately a lone Infantryman fires his pistol at the gaining Russians, while another group, hide behind a building.

In the third game we upped the chance for Cossacks entering the table.

There seems to be a growing number of Russians??

This was the end for poor Damian.                               The Russians close in for the kill.
But it means his friends have a chance to escape.....

Run!!!

The Cossacks move 14 inches and catch the rear of the French.

Both go down in the snow

The Cossacks charge on , hitting the French group the the back and the side.

Another group of Frenchmen are being cut down.

The French are tough though, they knock a few Cossacks out of their saddles.

But in the end the French are all killed.

So the Russians won the last game, so we best try this scenario again and see if the French can do any better???
