RP No 152 NYW French Dauphin Dragoons

The Dauphin Dragoons were raised on September 24th 1673 by Marquis de Saveboeuf.
After his death in combat at Consaarbruck in August 1675, King Louis XIV
gave the regiment to Monseigneur Louis Dauphin of France.
They fought in 3 major battles during the Nine Years War.
Walcourt in 1689, Namur in 1692 and Steenkirke also in 1692.
I'm really struggling trying to find out any info on the French units,so that's it I'm afraid!

The figures are form Essex, bases from Warbases and flags from Maverick Models.

The Dragoons were entered into Curt's Analogue Hobbies Challenge on the 20th January and earned me
70 points putting me back up into 19th place, seems like I just can't get any higher than 19th
Oh well!

  1. Only enough to bump you back up to number nineteen? What a crime. Should've been much more.

  2. Yet another good looking unit Ray and worthy of the points I've no doubt, but remember it's not the taking part that's important as long it's as you're ahead of "someone else" that's important surely ?

    3. You really know your stuff Ray - you're right about the cuffs. I am having mine done with a slightly darker blue though. It will be a little while before they make it to the blog as I'm waiting for the second squadron to come back. However, a squadron of the Dauphin cavalry should hit the blog in the next couple of days.

  7. Great looking unit, Ray! Like I noted on the contest blog, beware the color blue! It has insidiously crept into common use in my scifi and fantasy minis! ;) Although your research is sparce for the Dauphin Dragoons, it reminds me of begging for Airfix 8th Army and the Afrika Korps troops. To get them I had to tell my parents about them. The first units of many that taught me also of encyclopedias and the dewey decimal system. My son has it far easier with google! He doesn't have to trudge to a library barefoot in the snow uphill both directions fighting bears!

  21. Top work as always Ray.
I little tip I just found, when trying to research into none-english historical units - try doing a google search in the language of the nation in question. It may find more relevant sites. though you'll need to translate back again to read it, unless of course you're a cunning linguist! ;-)
