Vienna 1683 15mm - Ottoman Turk Commanders

The two armies are nearing completion....... will I add more to these armies of course I will!!!

Essex's selection of Ottoman figures isn't that vast so I bought some Lancashire figures and also some Venexia , also sold by Lancashire, to make up some command stands. I already painted up the top dog  Merzifonlu Kara Mustafa Pasha, the Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire, Commander in Chief of the entire Ottoman army, here. But I still needed the other brigade commanders.

After finding some historical Turkish commanders names I tried to chose the ones that matched the brigades set out by Mr Hilton in his scenario, now they don't all match unfortunately, but they were all real people who fought in the Vienna campaign.

I was wondering why they were all named Pasha at first, so I asked Mr Google who said Pasha isn't their actual name its a high-ranking historical title in Turkish meaning a commander, governor, or high-level official, roughly equivalent to a British lord or a general/admiral.

Also the word Beylerbeyi is a a high-ranking provincial governor-general in the Ottoman Empire, so you learn something new everyday, or so they say???

Ibrahim Pasha, Beylerbeyi of Buda and Chyzyr Pasha, Beylerbeyi of Bosnia Eyalet

Abaza Sari Husetin Pasha, Beylerbeyi of Damascus and Kucek Hasan Pasha, Beylerbeyi of Rumelia

Celebi Huseyin Pasha, Beylerbeyi of Janowan, Ahmed Pasha, Beylerbeyi of Anatolia & Binamaz Halil Pasha, Beylerbeyi of Sivas

  3. Good job, Ray! I’ve had the Ottoman army for the 16th century sitting in a box for two or three years now, and I just haven’t gotten around to it. My wife and daughter were fans of the TV series “Magnificent Century,” so I ended up watching it with them and getting into Ottoman culture.))))

  4. Those are excellent, Ray. I was also rather impressed with their basing too - nice mix of rocks and the odd infantryman. Splendid posting.

Alongside the Retreat from Moscow, this is one of my favorite projects of yours!

  6. Lovely command stands, Ray. You'd better start reminding yourself about the rules, because it sounds like you might be putting this game on soon.

  8. Great command stands Ray. Nice choice of colours for these. They look distinctly Turkish without being garish.

  9. Fantastic work Ray and a great idea to give them all individual names so that when you record the battles you know who to blame 😁
Will you be able to match the units to the areas they controlled? Or is that a nerdy step to far😂
