Baron Christian Juel was the first commander of this regt of Danish Horse. He was their leader at the Battle of the Boyne. Juel died in 1691 of an unknown illness, the regt was then given to Frederic Henri, Marquis de la Forest-Suzannett, he was a
Huguenot nobleman, and was already in
Danish service in 1683 at the rank of Colonel. As the Danish envoy to
London, he took part in the negotiations
which bought the Danish corps to Ireland, he came along as a Major General of
Horse on Wurttemberg’s staff.
In Flanders in 1694, William appointed him Lieutenant-General, he was confirmed with this rank in the Danish army in 1697.
The figures are from Essex and the flags were made by myself. This is the last of the Danish Horse for the Boyne demo game at Broadside this coming Sunday, so if you're in the area of Sittingbourne on the 9th come and say hello!!!

Really nice! And warms my heart to see more danes ;-)
ReplyDeleteGood paint work yet again my friend
Looks good!
ReplyDeleteWhich is more difficult to paint - the soldiers or the horses?
The soldiers, the horses are really easy.
DeleteHow long does it take to paint the horse, versus the soldier?
DeletePS: Glad to see you still posting.
One horse would take around 5 minutes, while the man would take around 8-10 mins.
DeleteMore cracking figures Ray!
ReplyDeleteHow many more to do before your Boyne/Killiecrankie project is done?
The Boyne is complete, I've not posted 4 units, I think?? For Killiecrankie, I don't really need anything else, I can use sub units, but, I'll probably end up painting the last three I need Balfour's, Ramsey's and Hasting's.
DeleteLooking fantastic! How I wish I could be at that game...
ReplyDeleteUm, you paint a horse in 5 mins? Crap.
I know it makes me feel like shooting myself.
DeleteI don't want to!
ReplyDeleteVery Nice Ray, have fun Sunday :)
ReplyDeleteAnother great looking unit Ray!
ReplyDeleteChristopher

ReplyDeleteThose are very nice indeed Ray. I'm impressed with your painting times too - wish I could paint as well so quickly.
ReplyDeleteJason
Really great looking unit Ray!
ReplyDeleteReally had to enlarge the pic to see the little details on the flag, especially the green one. Pretty sweet
ReplyDeleteLovely Danes, Ray! And good luck on the big demo this weekend. There's nothing quite like getting your freshly painted troops out on the tabletop!
ReplyDeleteReally looking forward to it!
DeleteVery nice. I really like the colors of this regiment.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see you posting Ray. You might be a little weasel, but I do miss the days when you posted regularly.
ReplyDeleteThese are smashing and how in God's name do you paint so fast?
You boys have fun on Sunday. Take pics and we'll expect a full report next week.
We shall, on both accounts!
DeleteAnother fine regiment and outstanding flags. How in the heck do you paint a horse in 5 minutes and a foot soldier in 8 minutes? That's bloody fast!
ReplyDeleteHope to see a recap of your Sunday game.
Lots of practice!
DeleteHi Ray see you Sunday. The Doors open for set up at 8am, so don't turn up ridiculously early like you did last year. I know it was probably not your choice to be so early so tell the others. Looking forward to seeing the game in all it's majesty.
ReplyDeleteIt's always Ray's fault! That's the rule number two amongst the Rejects...number one is ignore all of Ray's advice about tabletop tactics.
DeleteCome on who's that then??
DeleteHi Ray,
ReplyDeletegreat paintjob and interesting history lesson as always.
Thanks a lot.
Enjoy your trip!
Stefan
Nice piece of art. Great work.
ReplyDelete5min for a horse, 10min for a soldier...Ouah! Most impressive ray, and a wonderful unit!!
ReplyDeletePhil.
Once more, excellent figures Ray; was their any European country not represented in this War ?
ReplyDeleteThere were, but not that many??
DeleteNice work mate, yet again.

ReplyDeleteGood stuff mate, looking forward to Sunday now. See you at Posties bright and early!
ReplyDeletePosties not well at the moment, he may not be able to make it.
DeleteBeautifully done - they look grand en masse. I had to do a double take at the colours - the red on white one particularly. :) Best, Dean
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful unit with its own piece of history. Cheers!!!
ReplyDeleteRay, I'm looking forward to seeing all these figures in the "flesh" on Sunday!
ReplyDeleteA great post, Ray. You've really done good work on this Boyne project. Good luck and have fun on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteNice to see you painting again. How many units in this era do you have now? 139 ? or are those numbers referring to somethings else?
ReplyDeleteOnce again, exquisite work! Also the Gravesend game (previous post) looks like it was a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteLovely work Ray! I hope Postie is feeling better.
