Recently painted No 46 Japanese - Russo-Japanese War

Last year I painted up loads of figures for both sides of the Russo-Japanese War 1904-05. All the figures belong to Postie, the Games Master extraordinaire from The Rejects!!
He gave me this lovely lot to paint up over Christmas, I finally finished them last Saturday, and have already sent off a few pics to Curt for the Analouge Painting Challenge.
The figures are from Old Glory, and took a bit longer to paint than the usual Japanese I previously painted up, as they were in mixed uniform. The others were either in all blue or the newer Khaki uniform that was issued halfway through the war. But photographic evidence, proves that a lot of the troops never handed in their old blue uniform, many keeping it to double up as it was so cold. So Posties asked me to mix the uniforms, none of the other figures I painted for the period are based up yet, but even so I think these look the best because of the mixed uniform, but hey! What the hell do I know??/
These lovely looking fellows earned me some dosh from Postie and a hefty  288 points in the painting Challenge, pushing me up to 4th place with 560 points.

Here's the top 5 as I write:
KentG:    1218pts (Napoleonic Artillery & ECW)
TimB:        640pts (WWI Canadians & Spartans)
SteveM:    620pts (15mm German Sturmkompanie)
RayR:        560pts (15mm 1904 Japanese Infantry)
DaveD:     520pts (28mm Bavarian Cavalry)

I hope you all noticed??? The fact that Fran is missing in the top 5, infact is he's also missing from the top 10!!!! Shock, Horror!!!! The Lurker is Lurking away in 11th place with a measly 194 points!!. Come on Fran get your finger out!!
Now away from the Fran bashing and back to the troops!!!

Trying to find any info about the units that served for both sides during the Russo-Japanese proved very difficult, Postie has stacks of books on the subject, but these only had which division served where and in what battles. So a quick message on TMP...and volaire!! Order of Battles galore via the Nafgizer files!!

These figures represent part of  the 2nd Japanese Army under General Oku. In the photo above are the 2nd Army, 3rd Division, 5th Brigade, 6th Infanty regt, 1st Battalion

  3. Lovely work on those little fellas! The half butternut, half-bluebelly scheme is giving me visions of a weird ACW - maybe Harry Harrison's one!

  11. Looks good, you've definitely got the mini-diorama thing going here. What rules are you using?

  12. I've not seen any figures from this period Ray. I love those swords and the bayonets. Nice work as always. I'm proud of you for how well you're doing in the contest, I really am. But, you've one advantage over Angry. You've a wife, he's got a girlfriend. Wives will put up with your time spent painting, girlfriends won't. Tell Fran to marry that woman!

  13. @ firemonkeyboy - Posties going to use a Franco Prussian War set called "They Died for Glory". They an excellent set of rules!!

@ Anne - He's to chicken to marry her!! Fran gets loads more time for painting as his Mrs leaves him alone when he's off, but he chooses to play the PS3 instead. I've got the Mrs and 4 kids (all girls, "shudder"!!,telling me what to do all the time, I'm surprised I remember to breath let alone paint!!

  28. They look very nice. I didn't know the Japanese used those colors in their uniforms. I guess I always pictured them in the WWII khaki. Another cool thing I've learned from one of your posts.

  31. You've done great with this unit. The mixed uniforms may have been Postie's idea, but you've executed it well.
