For this post I'm dipping my toes into Section 2 of the Challenge Library and landing on........
Famous Person: The plaque says it all.
I searched through my unloved leadpile to see what I could use for a statue and found a few suitable figures, but needed some kind of plinth. Then at Cavalier last Sunday I saw some for sale from Iron Gate Studios, a swift purchase was made!
Irongate also sell a range of very nice looking figures El Cid and the Reconquista. So another purchase was made, and the unloved figures from my pile of shame were put back in the box!
If you're gonna paint of figures for the Reconquista, why not go straight to the man of the hour Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, himself!! Of course otherwise known as El Cid.
Looks good Ray, you have managed to get the verdigris just right on the bronze statue, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Keith, I'm very pleased with how it came out tbh?
DeleteGood looking ststue. The plinth is one of several items I have considered recently obtaining from Irongate . Your statue now needs a park.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly does Joe!
DeleteWell done Ray, I particularly like the patina effect.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrew, I'm glad you like it.
DeleteVery good bronze work!
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you, Jonathan!
DeleteThe bronze one really looks like a statue.
ReplyDeleteI'm very pleased hoe it turned out, Alex.
DeleteWoooa! Looking great Ray!
ReplyDeletethanks Michal, glad you like it.
DeleteReally cool. Would be a good addition to any desk or bookshelf--nobody need know it's a wargame figure :)
ReplyDeleteYou're right, it could, couldn't it.
DeleteVery nice work Ray, really looks like a statue that has weathered over the ages.
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty easy to do, as well.
DeleteSuperb work Ray
ReplyDeleteThanks Neil, I appreciate that.
DeleteVery nice indeed Ray…
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the real bronze statues were left the bright soft golden colour of new bronze or were they treated to be fashionably old….
I was surprised to find out that some heroic statues were made of lead…and then gilded with gold leaf.
Bling…. 😁
All the best. Aly
Bling, indeed! Cheers Aly.
DeleteVery realistic, lovely job Ray.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence.
DeleteGreat work Ray, on both the statue and the plinth.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon.
DeleteSuperb Ray, exactly the right pose for the piece.
ReplyDeleteIts a great figure, on its own really. A typically heroic pose.
DeleteThat is a great looking El Cid sculpt. He looks great as a bronze statue as well as painted up.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean, drybrushing, really show all the detail of the figure.
DeleteA very nice looking figure 👍
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt!
DeleteFabulous job Ray, that gone really well.
ReplyDeleteCheers Sir M! Good to see you in blogland once again.
