Recently Painted No 12 - 6mm French WSS

Guess what?? Yep, yet again these are more of Posties figures. These were painted in the middle of last year, I also painted up loads more. Posties trying to get every unit on all sides painted for the Battle of Blenheim in 1704, we've got around 70% done so far. It should be a great game when they're all painted up. I used various on-line sources for uniform and flag guides, thanks to everyone who answered my questions on the TMP and LoA sites. The figures are made by Heroics and Ross, which are true 6mm, they weren't that difficult to paint, after my eyes adjusted to the permanent squint I had to pull. Postie's not got a set of rules in mind at the moment, he was going to use Volley and Bayonet, as one of our pals used to use them, but he's not sure yet. As you can see from the photo above, I selected a few of the French regiments for this post. In the near future I'll have another post with some cavalry, artillery and some English and their allies. All comments welcome good or bad,. except for the Angry Lurker, who doesn't deserve to comment on my blog. LOL!!

  1. I have enough truble paiting 28mm figures. How does postie do it? Is he actually a dwarf who uses a wee ladder?

  2. For truble - read trouble
    For painting - read painting

  3. 6mm should be the grand scale
    not a meager 12 figs for a battalion

  4. @ Wee Sodjer -Yes he is a dwarf and he does have to use a ladder just to reach the kitchen work top, the poor little chap, unfortunately I painted these and I'm a bit bigger!!
    @ Mr anonymous, if you want to put comments like that on my blog, that's your call, but please put your name down, so I know who to send the voodoo curse to!

  5. For me 6mm is a wonderful scale, and makes the field feel enormous. Helps in painting that they're so small.

  6. @ Porky - I totally agree, we normally play on a 6x8 table, for 25mm, that's not really big enough, for 15mm it's a good size but for 6mm it's massive, with so much more scope to the game,NO matter how many figures are in the units.

  8. I think along the same lines as Anonymous(whoever he/she is), Horse and Musket 6mm is great for masses of troops trekking about everywhere. In 6mm you need at least 50 figures to make it look like a unit. I've seen 28mm 'units' of 12 figures and it doesn't do anything for me at all. Even my 6mm Irregular blocks? for ECW have the equivalent of 48 pike and the same in musket on 3 60mmm x 40mm bases. The only place for small units is on a purely representative static display. Not taking anything away from your figures by the way which are rather nice for what is dismissively named 'braille scale'. I particularly like the standards -hand painted or bought?

  9. The flags are all hand-painted, I tried to get Postie to buy them, but he wanted them hand-painted. Some of the French flags were quite easy, white cross and 4 squares of colour, while others were very difficult to paint so small and to try and get them look like they were supposed to. As for the number of figures per unit, each to there own, personally I don't see the point in having a large number of figures for 6mm. Postie chose 6mm because it allows you to do the whole of the battle of Blenheim at a reasonable price. To do that in 25mm, he'd have to re-mortgage and sell the Mrs, for 15mm perhaps just sell the Mrs, while in 6mm he's got just enough money left to pay me to paint the figures!!

  12. At first I was all for the voodoo curse, but since I work with a real Kreyol Haitian all the time, I know some better forms of magic. I started a comment for here but when it hit 450 words moved it over to my blog, and expanded to a2,000 word article for content with an image, unusual for me. Also after 34 years I'll soon have my old book back which a certain guy borrowed all those years ago. This is all thanks to the anonymous troll, and sincerely turned a negative positive. I was agreeing with Porky, and Postie, and Ray, in short.

  15. Nice work, I don't like what I do in 15mm most of the time. I think 6mm might drive me insane.

  17. Hi;
    good work on the H&Ros WSS figures. 6mm is good for mass as mr Anonymous said, BUT is also excellent when you want to play army level games where one stand is a battalion, as it is on this page.
    Some examples of H&RosSYW/WSS here ;
