25mm Nubian Spearmen, Spanish Reconquista

Today's post is once again one of my long hidden gems, dusted and photographed just to appear here for your viewing pleasure!! he he!
This unit of Nubian Spearmen was painted many moons ago and like the Black Guard in my previous post, have only made one miserable appearance on a wargaming table, which is such a shame, because in my opinion they look quite good, but I'm biased of course, as I painted most of them. Around ten of these figures were part of my bring and buy bargin at a Birmingham wargame show around 12 years ago. The figures are all from the excellent Gripping beast range. They are based on a picture in the Osprey book,  "The Armies of Islam 7th-10th century Men-at-arms No125. These and others make up my Moor army to oppose the infamous Charltono Hestona  El Cid.
Hope you like them!!!

Ray

  7. I really do like them! As a matter of fact when I'm finished with my Christian Reconquista project I'll then do a Moorish one as I really enjoy the period so much.

  8. Very nicely painted models. Are the flags your own work as well? They're really excellent too.

  9. Thanks to everyone for your comments!!!
@Bard - Unfortunately I cannot claim fame for the flag, I think it came from Gripping Beast?? I just added some high/low light to it to make it stand out more.

  12. Great models and I agree on the colour scheme. It's very effective. I'd have guessed the banner was one of yours too.

  16. I need to see that movie again, but if you are opposed to the great former president Charlton Heston then doesn't that make you something like Omar Sharif, and where exactly would that fit Sophia Loren into the picture?

  18. Ray,
Did a Google search for Moors infantry, and your stuff came up...wow another period you're kicking ass in! Great paint jobs on the two different foot units. I'm working on my Tangier 1683 - Donnybrook project. I'm painting a bunch of Artizan figures for my Moors.

  19. Very nice! I really like the blues tones on the padded jacket and the flag is superb. Is the flag one of your own creations? Do you have other Moorish flags in your flag arsenal?

    1. I'm afraid this is a flag I bought, If I remember correctly, because it was a long time ago, I bought this from Gripping Beast?? The only other Moorish flags I have I found online. I've not made any myself......yet?
