SELWG 2021

Last Sunday, 4 Rejects went on our first tour of a Wargame show in 20 months. Richard, Postie, Lee and myself drove to Lee Valley Athletics Centre in Edmonton for the
SELWG show.

We got there pretty early but only stood in the queue for around 15 minutes.

Straight in the doors and who do I bump into, Tamsin!

Rob from Reiver looking very stern, perhaps I should have spent more?
Wasn't till I got home I realised that was true, I'd forgotten to buy some Austrian Grenadiers!!!

Too Fat Lardies - Infamy Infamy

I went back a little later when there was a little bit of action.

Spalding Wargames Club - Fistful of Lead

The queue for lunch. Apparently a Fish n Chip van was hired for lunch, but overnight some bugger nicked it!!!
So a Mexican food and coffee vans were quickly called. Sensibly Richard bought some sandwiches, me Postie and Lee didn't, so we had to stand in line with everyone else.
Note the Mexican in the Mexican queue!

Here's of pic of the well deserved Winners of Best of Show!!

I met Simon from Iron Mitten blog, centre, he made me put the hat on. I did tell him
I've got a big head!

I was quite impressed with the new venue, lots of open space, with loads of room for more traders next year. I did miss the quirkiness of Crystal Palace I've gotta admit, but not the choline smell.
I guess it was a difficult decision moving to North London, being the South East London Wargames Club, but If that was the best place available then why the hell not.
Well done guys, great show!

  2. Some great looking games Ray…
    But…
Someone stealing the fish and chip van…😳… that kind of act surely calls for pitchforks and burning torches…we are truly in dark times 😱

    All the best. Aly

  4. "Straight in the doors..." my arse! It was a good couple of hours later!

Great pics of the games, Ray, but what about the loot?

It was a shame my camera was buried so deep in my bag when I saw you sitting outside - a photo of "Ray and his spare tyre" would have been a good one for my blog! ;)

  6. A very comprehensive looking report Ray - looks like a lot of interesting games going on there! I only ever made it to two or three shows when I was still in the UK - Edinburgh and Glasgow in the late 70's - how old does that make me sound?! (I was only 15 or 16 - the first time, my Dad had to take me and a couple of mates - fortunately, he was a model railway enthusiast so I hope he wasnt too bored with it all!)

  7. Why were you not wearing masks? It all looked pretty empty to me, maybe confidence in attending events is not shared by all?

  8. Thanks for all the pics Ray, I love a show tour of tables. I was surprised that the Bring and Buy went ahead, due to social distancing considerations etc ... was that an issue or was it spaced enough to make it work out ok?

    1. It was spaced out quite considerably. It did help with social distancing IMHO.

  11. Great revue Ray. I wasn't looking stern mate, I was perplexed by it being two top coats warmer in the south than the frozen North!

  13. Looks like a lot of tables and people - bet it felt good to get out again.
Once difference I noted - here everyone would've been still wearing a mask, vaccinated or not.

    1. It was a grand day out. I think we're ahead in the covid vaccine programme than the US. Most adults are double jabbed in the UK, which won't stop you getting it but will stop you being hospitalised if you do get it.
