RP 63 ACW Disordered Markers

I started painting these disordered markers during the Analouge painting Challenge, but I didn't get the chance to finish them in time and add them to my tally. So last weekend I got stuck in and finished basing them and some other figures that didn't make it onto Challenge, (more from them in a later post).  The figures are casualty markers from Peter Pig's ACW range, and will be used for Posties Fire & Fury rules.
In the last photo you can see what they looked like at the end of the Challenge, I just didn't get time to finish them!!

  1. You're not just calling these order markers instead of casualty markers to avoid the controvery that arose last time casualty markers were discussed on the wargamer blog scene, eh?

Just kidding, these look great, as Order markers or casualties.

    1. There has been a lot of misunderstanding about casualties of war figures on previous posts in the blogosphere. War's are bloody thing, people do and have died during them, but what people should really remember that they are game pieces, just like a chess piece, a tiddly wink or a top hat out of Monopoly.

  2. Yes, bloggers can really get their panties in a bunch, over wording.

    Either way, job Sir Ray.

  4. Great work Ray! I think that lot accurately reflect that fact that more Americans died in the ACW than in any other war...

  5. I'm going to make a play on words here and it's in good fun.
Ray, with the total you had in the painting challenge wouldn't these have just been overkill?

  8. Not that I am all about death or anything, but I find myself fascinated with pieces like these. Not sure why... Anyhow, they look really great.

  9. Great basing and painting there Ray. Disorder/Casualties markers are needed for some games and people who get offended by them should grow a pair.

  22. Gads! How many casualties are you expecting? Planning on fighting Bull Run on a one to one scale? Then again, with Postie's mini collection, you probably could.

  28. Ahaha they're so bloody and dead and amusing :D

    I am perfectly sane.

  29. Why that controversy? I can not understand it; they are figures, metal models, markers, no real casualties. Some times we are a bit...

On the other hand, Ray, a very nice painting and basing job with them; they could have been a lot of points!!!

  32. I like the idea. I am not concerned about non-gamers thinking I'm ghouhish. We all die someday. .... Right now I'm a fan of the old Rally around the Flag ACW rules and am doing the following. Each eliminated figure is represented by putting a "casualty" figure behind the unit. These follow the unit around unit there is a stand lost (4 dead) , and then it is replaced by a dead minuatures figure (lying flat on the ground)and the stand is removed from play. What this means is that the tabletop is NOT loaded up with beads, paper chits, punch-hole reinforcers and coloured pipe cleaners. Also, you can see the progress of a battle and frankly something like what battlefields actually looked like. ....RatF is a simultaneous move game and I am in the process of getting hex shaped 1" bases. They will be used 2 at a time on top of one another. The bottom hex stand will be marked: CHARGE, MOVE, DEFEND, ROUTED 1, ROUTED 2 with arrows as appropriate. The top one will be painted and flocked as terrain. Therefore, these will help with the paperless recording of plans & status, remove doubts about the direction of movement or charge, will hide intensions from the opponent and will make the appearance of the tabletop better. Next to get the dice and beer cans off the table!!
